FAQs

When do we meet?

We meet Sunday's 6-7 PM in the Family Studies Building Room 103. We will also be at the involvement fair Wednesday, February 5th 2020 from 2-7 PM at Gampel.

Do I need medical experience?

No, medical experience is not necessary. We will have informational meetings that will familiarize volunteers of the tasks and stations we will be working on the trip.

Do I have to know the language?

No, volunteers do not have to be able to speak Spanish or Swahili. It is recommended participants familiarize, learn, and utilize basic Spanish or Swahili phrases. Before going on the trip, volunteers should familiarize themselves with the medical landscape of the country and issues that the communities are facing. We will go over these in our informational sessions.

Do I have to have a health related major?

No, this is not necessary. We enjoy having people of all passions participate in the trips to provide multiple perspectives and approaches. There is more to the trip than the clinics, such as the community projects and interacting with the community. MEDLIFE seeks to address medical issues that arise from many sources, including economical and developmental. This effort is strengthened by people of different fields and backgrounds.

What are the costs and what do they cover?

There is a participation fee and airfare costs. The participation fee covers all meals on weekdays, in-country transportation, and hotels for the volunteers. The fee also runs the clinics by supplying doctors, medicine, equipment, follow-up appointments, etc.

There 95:5 campaign is MEDLIFE’s fundraising tool. For every dollar a volunteer raises, 95 cents goes towards the volunteer’s program fee and the remaining 5 cents goes toward funding the MEDLIFE operation.
