Our Upcoming Project

The Miguel Project

In January 2016, MEDLIFE: UConn participated in the MEDLIFE Mobile Clinic trip to Lima, Peru. During that week-long trip, the site of our infrastructure project was a community in San Juan de Miraflores, and we collaborated with other MEDLIFE participants and community members to construct a cement staircase. Before the staircase was added, we watched as young children, the elderly, and mothers bearing children cautiously climbed down the steep and winding paths that led to their homes. This staircase makes traversing their community easier and safer, and, by increasing the accessibilty, it brings them one step closer to being recognized as a community by the government, a luxury which will allow them access to electricity and governement support.

The staircase we built is a great step towards providing the community members with hopes of a better future, but we want to do more. Inspired by Miguel and the many children of San Juan de Miraflores, we strive to continue our support of the communities with which we work through our fundraising efforts this year.
