Every year, MEDLIFE: UConn participates in two week-long MEDLIFE Mobile Clinics to bring medical care to impoverished communities abroad. These clinics provide community members with access to general medical care, as well as dental, OB/GYN, and pediatric care. By participating in these trips, we have the opportunity to facilitate triage processes, shadow general practitioners and OB/GYN physicians, serve as dental assistants, instruct children on proper dental and general hygiene, and fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision. In addition to assisting with the clinic, participants aid in the completion of a community project to improve infrastructure, constructing staircases or houses. These trips truly embody the MEDLIFE mission to provide medicine, education, and development to all, and they prove to be humbling and eye-opening experiences for all who participate.
